We Become the Prayer

A Universal Gospel of Sacred Participation

We Become the Prayer grew out of a simple question: What happens when familiar Christian prayers, figures, and biblical stories are approached not only as events to believe in, but as spiritual experiences that can unfold within human consciousness? The idea first emerged while reconsidering Ave Maria. Traditionally, Mary is addressed as a sacred intercessor, but another possibility appeared: Mary as the archetype of receptivity—the human being who says yes before knowing where that yes will lead. From there came Mary Magdalene and the moment in which grief prevents her from recognizing the presence already before her; the Prodigal Son and the possibility that belonging was never actually withdrawn; Jesus’ teaching about the Kingdom and the question of whether heaven is fundamentally somewhere else; and eventually prayer itself—whether it is chiefly an appeal to a distant divine authority, or whether it can become gratitude, recognition, participation, and finally a way of living.

The album does not attempt to replace traditional Christian interpretations or argue that these stories have only one meaning. Instead, it treats them as sacred archetypes and asks what additional spiritual perspectives they may contain. Universal Gospel shifts the emphasis from distance toward presence, from external authority toward participation, from fear of separation toward remembrance, and from asking the sacred to act somewhere beyond us toward allowing sacred qualities to become embodied through us. The album’s governing idea gradually became: we do not stop praying; our lives become the prayer.

Musically, this called for a new development of the Universal Gospel language. The intimate chamber gospel-soul of the earlier albums remains, but We Become the Prayer introduces a more ancient and archetypal dimension. Gospel piano, Hammond organ, cello, chamber strings, warm bass, live percussion, female lead voice, and mixed choir are joined by colors suggestive of the biblical world—lyre-like plucked strings, frame drum, breathy reed flute, and sparse ritual timbres. These are not intended as historical reconstruction. They function as an ancestral layer beneath the contemporary music: ancient sacred memory sounding quietly inside a modern spiritual language. As the album progresses, the ancient and contemporary elements increasingly merge, just as the album itself moves from inherited sacred stories toward lived participation.

The nine tracks follow nine biblical sources, teachings, or archetypal moments:

  1. Ave Maria — The Sacred Yes
Inspired by Mary and the Annunciation. Rather than centering Mary primarily as someone from whom intercession is requested, the song considers her as the archetype of sacred receptivity. She does not know the future, yet she consents to participate in something larger than herself. The Universal Gospel question becomes: What might enter the world when a human life becomes willing to make room for the sacred?
  2. Magdalene — When the Beloved Was Already There
Inspired by Mary Magdalene at the tomb after the Crucifixion. In the Gospel narrative she initially fails to recognize the risen Jesus who is before her. The song transforms that moment into a meditation on grief and perception: How often do sorrow, fear, and expectation prevent us from recognizing a presence that has not actually disappeared? Its central realization is that what we mourn as absent may already be nearer than we know.
  3. There Was No Exile — The Prodigal
Inspired by the parable of the Prodigal Son. The traditional story contains repentance, return, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Universal Gospel emphasizes another dimension: the son may have abandoned his experience of belonging, but the father never ceased to regard him as his son. The journey home becomes the awakening to a relationship that had never truly been revoked: he left home, but home did not leave him.
  4. The Kingdom Is Here
Inspired by Jesus’ teachings about the Kingdom of God, particularly the teaching that the Kingdom is not simply something to be located “here” or “there.” Rather than treating heaven only as a distant destination, the song asks whether the Kingdom can also be understood as a reality recognized and embodied within life and among us. Heaven becomes not merely somewhere to go, but something to live.
  5. The Prayer We No Longer Ask
Inspired by the Lord’s Prayer and its great themes of the Kingdom, daily bread, forgiveness, guidance, and deliverance. The song begins in the familiar posture of petition—give us, forgive us, lead us, deliver us—and gradually moves toward gratitude and participation. The question changes from “What will heaven do for us?” to “What might love be asking us to become?” Prayer evolves from request into relationship and ultimately action.
  6. The Wilderness Is Not Empty
Inspired by the biblical wilderness tradition, particularly Jesus’ time in the wilderness. Throughout scripture, wilderness is associated with testing, solitude, uncertainty, and the stripping away of familiar securities. Universal Gospel reframes that emptiness not as abandonment but as a condition in which quieter forms of presence can finally be perceived. Silence is not necessarily absence.
  7. Become the Bread
Inspired by the biblical imagery of daily bread, shared meals, feeding, and communion. Bread is one of scripture’s most physical sacred symbols: something received, broken, shared, and given. The song asks what happens when blessing ceases to be something merely possessed. The prayer for bread becomes the willingness to become nourishment for another—through food, kindness, presence, welcome, and human care.
  8. What Love Cannot Lose — Resurrection
Inspired by the Resurrection. The song deliberately does not tell the listener whether resurrection must be understood historically, literally, symbolically, or metaphysically. Instead, it explores the spiritual experience contained within the image: something genuinely ends, grief is real, yet life and love may prove larger than the form that has ended. Resurrection becomes not necessarily the restoration of what was, but life opening into a form we could not previously imagine.
  9. We Become the Prayer
Inspired by Jesus’ teachings of lived love—love of God, love of neighbor, compassion, mercy, service, and the embodiment of what one professes. Unlike the preceding tracks, it is not a retelling of one isolated biblical episode. It is the synthesis of the album. Everything learned before it—Mary’s willingness, Magdalene’s recognition, the Prodigal’s belonging, the present Kingdom, transformed prayer, wilderness listening, shared bread, and resurrection—now becomes a way of living. The final question is no longer simply, “Where is heaven?” It becomes: “How will heaven live through me?”

The spiritual journey of We Become the Prayer can therefore be expressed very simply:

Receive. Recognize. Return. Discover. Pray differently. Listen. Share. Rise. Embody.

The album begins with one human being saying yes to the sacred. It ends with an entire community saying we are willing. Between those two moments lies the central proposition of Universal Gospel: the sacred need not remain an authority somewhere beyond us. It can become a presence we recognize, a relationship we enter, and ultimately a reality expressed through the way we live.

Liner Notes

Ave Maria — The Sacred Yes

The album opens with Mary not primarily as an intercessor, but as the archetype of sacred receptivity. Her significance lies in the willingness to say yes before the future is known. She cannot see the ending, cannot calculate the cost, and cannot control what follows. Yet she makes room for something larger than herself to enter human life.

Musically, the song establishes the album’s Sacred Chamber Gospel language: piano, cello, chamber strings, distant choir, and the ancient colors of lyre and reed flute. The music begins almost suspended between earth and heaven, then gradually becomes warmer and more embodied. Its central idea becomes the foundation for everything that follows: the sacred does not only come to us; it enters the world through our willingness.

Lyrics

[Intro]

Ave Maria.

[Verse 1]

Before the road was opened,
Before you knew the way,
Before the world could tell you
What your answer meant to say,

There came a quiet question,
No certainty, no sign,
Only something asking
For your life to open wide.

[Pre-Chorus]

You could not see the ending.
You could not know the cost.

And still within the silence,
You did not call yourself lost.

[Chorus]

Ave Maria,
You showed us how to hear.

Not by knowing what would follow,
Not by living without fear.

Ave Maria,
You opened without proof.

And through the doorway of your yes,
The sacred entered through.

[Verse 2]

We have been taught to search above us,
To wait for heaven’s hand,
To ask the light to find us
From some far and distant land.

But maybe heaven enters
Where a willing heart makes room.

Maybe love becomes a body
When we let it move through us.

[Chorus]

Ave Maria,
You showed us how to hear.

Not by knowing what would follow,
Not by living without fear.

Ave Maria,
You opened without proof.

And through the doorway of your yes,
The sacred entered through.

[Bridge]

Maybe faith is making room
For what is asking birth today.

Maybe prayer is not persuading
Heaven to come our way.

Maybe what we call the holy
Is not waiting far above.

Maybe heaven enters softly
Where a life makes room for love.

What if the holy
needs our hands?

Our hands.

What if compassion
needs our voice?

Our voice.

What if love is waiting
for a life through which to move?

Let it move.

Let it move.

[Verse 3]

When my road is hidden,
When certainty is gone,
I will not demand an answer
Before I carry on.

I will listen for the question
Living underneath:

What is love now asking
To become through me?

[Final Chorus]

Ave Maria,
The sacred yes remains.

Not a promise without sorrow,
Not a shelter without change.

Ave Maria,
May we learn to answer too.

Not with certainty before us,
But with hearts that open true.

Ave Maria,
May our lives become the door.

What we once believed was distant
Need be distant now no more.

[Refrain]

I am willing.

I am listening.

I am open.

Let love move.

Through our hands.

Through our voices.

Through our living.

Let love move.

[Outro]

Ave Maria.

You did not know the ending.

You only gave your yes.

And the sacred
found a place
to live.

May it find
a place
in us.

Ave Maria.

Magdalene — When the Beloved Was Already There

Mary Magdalene stands in grief, believing that what she loves has disappeared. Yet the presence she mourns is already before her. Recognition comes only when perception changes.

The song turns that biblical moment into a meditation on grief and spiritual blindness. Sorrow can make absence seem absolute; expectation can prevent us from seeing what does not appear in the form we anticipated. The realization is both intimate and profound: what we mourn as absent may sometimes be nearer than we know. The music mirrors that transformation, beginning in low piano, cello, and sparse ancient timbres before opening harmonically as recognition arrives.

Lyrics

[Intro]

I came before the morning
Had opened up the sky.

I came to where I left you
With one unanswered why.

[Verse 1]

The garden held its silence.
The stone had moved away.

I searched among the shadows
For what the night had taken.

I thought that love had vanished.
I thought the light was gone.

And grief became the only place
I knew how to belong.

[Pre-Chorus]

I was looking for an ending.

I was looking for a sign.

And something stood beside me
I could not recognize.

[Chorus]

You were already there.

Already near.

Closer than the sorrow
That had made you disappear.

You were already there.

I could not see.

What I was mourning as lost
Was standing next to me.

[Verse 2]

I thought I knew your absence.
I gave the darkness names.

I measured what was missing
By the shape that still remained.

But grief can make a doorway
Look like an empty wall.

And love can stand before us
While we swear it is gone.

[Pre-Chorus]

Then something in the silence
Turned gently toward my name.

And suddenly the garden
Was not the same.

[Chorus]

You were already there.

Already near.

Closer than the sorrow
That had made you disappear.

You were already there.

I learned to see.

What I was mourning as lost
Was standing next to me.

[Bridge]

Maybe presence does not vanish
When our eyes can find no proof.

Maybe love can change its language
Without ceasing to be true.

Maybe what we call an ending
Is sometimes where we stand

When the form we knew has fallen
But the love has never left.

I thought you had gone.

Still here.

I thought I was alone.

Still here.

I could not see beyond my grief.

Still here.

And yet the love I mourned
was breathing near.

Still here.

[Verse 3]

Now when the world grows silent,
When something loved is gone,

I will not call it nothing
Just because its form moves on.

I will leave a little opening
For what I cannot see.

For love may stand beside me
Before I recognize what it can be.

[Final Chorus]

You were already there.

Already near.

Closer than the sorrow,
Closer than the fear.

You were already there.

And now I see:

Love may wear another face
And still remain with me.

You were already there.

No distance to cross.

What I believed had disappeared
Was more than what was lost.

[Refrain]

Already here.

Already near.

Even when I cannot see.

Already here.

Already near.

Love is larger
than what leaves.

[Outro]

I came looking
for what I thought was gone.

And found
I was not alone.

Already here.

Already near.

Already here.

There Was No Exile

Inspired by the Prodigal Son, this song shifts attention away from punishment and toward belonging. The son leaves, wanders, and returns believing that distance has changed his identity. Yet the love awaiting him has not forgotten who he is.

The central realization is simple: he left home, but home did not leave him. The track introduces a warmer gospel-soul pulse into the album, with piano, upright bass, brushes, frame drum, organ, and choir creating the first real sense of communal homecoming. Belonging is not earned at the end of the journey; it is remembered.

Lyrics

[Intro]

I practiced every sentence
Before I reached the door.

I carried all my failures
Like names I wore before.

[Verse 1]

I thought that I had wandered
Beyond the reach of home.

I thought the road behind me
Had made me someone unknown.

I counted every distance.
I measured every wrong.

And somewhere in the counting
I forgot where I belonged.

[Pre-Chorus]

I came prepared to bargain.

I came prepared to plead.

But love was already moving
Before I spoke my need.

[Chorus]

There was no exile
in the heart that called me home.

I had crossed a thousand distances,
But I had never crossed alone.

There was no exile
from the love that knew my name.

I returned believing I was different.

Love received me just the same.

[Verse 2]

I thought I needed pardon
Before I could come near.

I thought that I must prove myself
Before I could belong here.

But the door was never guarded.
No ledger blocked the way.

The arms I feared would judge me
Were already open wide.

[Pre-Chorus]

I had changed the story.

Love had not changed its name.

I had forgotten belonging.

Belonging still remained.

[Chorus]

There was no exile
in the heart that called me home.

I had crossed a thousand distances,
But I had never crossed alone.

There was no exile
from the love that knew my name.

I returned believing I was different.

Love received me just the same.

[Bridge]

Maybe home is not a place
That waits behind a door.

Maybe home is what remembers
Who we are beneath the wandering.

Maybe love does not restore us
By pretending we did not roam.

Maybe love simply keeps a place
Where we can recognize our home.

I left.

You belonged.

I wandered.

You belonged.

I forgot the name you gave me.

You belonged.

And when I finally turned toward home—

You belonged.

[Verse 3]

Now I know that every journey
Does not end where it began.

Sometimes coming home is seeing
What was holding us all along.

I do not need to earn it.

I do not need to hide.

I can bring the whole unfinished road
And lay it down inside.

[Final Chorus]

There was no exile
in the heart that called me home.

Every road I thought had severed me
Had never made me gone.

There was no exile
from the love that knew my name.

I returned believing I was different.

Love received me just the same.

There was no exile.

There was only wandering.

There was no exile.

There was remembering.

[Refrain]

Home was here.

Love was here.

Even when I could not see.

Home was here.

Love was here.

Still making room for me.

You belong.

You belong.

You have always belonged.

[Outro]

I thought I had come home.

But home
had never left me.

You belong.

I belong.

We belong.

The Kingdom Is Here

This song turns toward Jesus’ teachings about the Kingdom of God and asks whether heaven must always be imagined as somewhere beyond present life. Instead of waiting for a distant destination, the song explores the possibility that the Kingdom becomes visible wherever love, compassion, and awakened relationship are lived.

The movement is from elsewhere to presence. Heaven is no longer merely something to seek; it becomes something to embody. The final realization—“heaven was asking to be lived”—marks one of the album’s central theological shifts. The spacious 6/8 setting allows ancient lyre and reed flute to coexist with modern gospel harmony, suggesting that an ancient teaching is being heard again through contemporary consciousness.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]

I spent so long looking
Beyond the edge of here.

For something called the kingdom,
For somewhere bright and clear.

I raised my eyes toward heaven.
I searched beyond the blue.

I thought the holy waited
In a world I had not reached.

I thought that I must journey
Far beyond this ground,

Until the quiet showed me
What was already all around.

[Pre-Chorus]

Not there.

Not someday.

Not beyond another door.

Something sacred
was already
closer than before.

[Chorus]

The kingdom is here.

Closer than breath.

Living between us,
Alive in this moment.

The kingdom is here.

Not hidden above.

Wherever we awaken,
Wherever we become love.

[Verse 2]

Maybe heaven is not waiting
For the ending of our days.

Maybe heaven becomes visible
In the life we choose to make.

In the hand that does not harden.

In the voice that answers fear.

In the moment we remember
There is nowhere love is not near.

[Pre-Chorus]

We kept asking where to find it.

We kept asking when it starts.

And all along the doorway
Was opening through our hearts.

[Chorus]

The kingdom is here.

Closer than breath.

Living between us,
Alive in this moment.

The kingdom is here.

Not hidden above.

Wherever we awaken,
Wherever we become love.

[Bridge]

Maybe the kingdom
is not somewhere we go.

Maybe the kingdom
is something we know.

Not knowledge held tightly.

Not words we defend.

But the way separation
begins to end.

Where is the kingdom?

Here.

Where is the sacred?

Here.

Where does heaven begin?

Here.

When love becomes something
we are willing to live.

Here.

[Verse 3]

Then let this ordinary morning
Become enough to see.

Let the table and the doorway
Hold their quiet mystery.

Let the stranger and the neighbor
No longer stand apart.

Let heaven become visible
In the ways we use our hearts.

[Final Chorus]

The kingdom is here.

Closer than breath.

Living within us,
Alive in this moment.

The kingdom is here.

Not waiting above.

It rises into being
Whenever we become love.

The kingdom is here.

No distance remains.

Not another world beyond us,
But a different way to name

The moment we remember
What separation made unclear:

We were never outside heaven.

The kingdom is here.

[Refrain]

Here in the breathing.

Here in the giving.

Here in the listening.

Here in the living.

Here.

Here.

The kingdom is here.

[Outro]

I spent so long
looking for heaven.

And heaven
was asking
to be lived.

The kingdom is here.

Here.

The Prayer We No Longer Ask

At the center of the album is a reconsideration of prayer itself. The song begins with the familiar language of petition: give me, guide me, change this, remove that. Gradually, the direction of prayer changes.

Inspired in part by the themes of the Lord’s Prayer, the song moves from asking toward gratitude, recognition, and participation. Daily bread becomes something that can be shared. Forgiveness becomes something that can be extended. Peace and compassion cease to be qualities we merely request from heaven and become qualities we are invited to embody. The turning point is expressed in the line: “I came asking heaven to change the world, and heard love asking me to enter it.”

Lyrics

[Intro]

I came with all my asking.

With everything I feared.

With all the things I wanted
Some distant heaven to hear.

[Verse 1]

Give me what I’m missing.

Show me where to go.

Take away the darkness.

Tell me what I need to know.

Carry what I cannot.

Change what I cannot change.

Make the world around me
Fit the prayer I came to say.

[Pre-Chorus]

And underneath my asking
Something quiet answered me:

What if prayer is more
than naming
what you need?

[Chorus]

Maybe prayer is not the asking.

Maybe prayer is how we see.

Maybe gratitude remembers
What is already here with me.

Maybe prayer is not persuading
Love to enter from above.

Maybe prayer becomes our living

When we make a place
for love.

[Verse 2]

I asked for daily bread
And found a table I could share.

I asked to be forgiven
And found someone I could spare.

I asked to be delivered
From the fear I could not bear.

And heard a deeper question:

What will you bring there?

[Pre-Chorus]

I had waited for an answer
To descend into my hands.

Then I saw my hands were part
of how the answer stands.

[Chorus]

Maybe prayer is not the asking.

Maybe prayer is how we see.

Maybe gratitude remembers
What is already here with me.

Maybe prayer is not persuading
Love to enter from above.

Maybe prayer becomes our living

When we make a place
for love.

[Bridge]

I asked for peace.

Could I become peaceful?

I asked for mercy.

Could I release?

I asked for kindness
to enter the world.

Could kindness
enter through me?

I asked heaven
to bring light.

Carry the light.

I asked heaven
to bring peace.

Carry the peace.

I asked heaven
to send compassion.

Become compassion.

I asked where
the answer would come from.

Look at your hands.

[Verse 3]

Now I come without a bargain.

I come without demand.

Not because I know the future.

Not because I understand.

I come grateful for this breathing.

For another day to choose.

For another chance to become
What I once asked love to do.

[Final Chorus]

Now the prayer is not just asking.

Now the prayer is how we live.

Grateful for what life has given,

We become what we would give.

The kingdom does not wait above us.

Love is not a distant call.

Every time we choose compassion,

Something sacred
enters all.

Now the prayer is in our living.

Now the prayer has hands and feet.

What we once requested from heaven

We can carry
into the street.

[Refrain]

We become the peace.

We become the mercy.

We become the open door.

We become the kindness
we were asking for.

Through our hands.

Through our voices.

Through our living.

Let the prayer
become our life.

Let the prayer
become our life.

[Outro]

I came asking heaven
to change the world.

And heard love asking me

to enter it.

Amen.

Not the end of the prayer.

The beginning.

The Wilderness Is Not Empty

After the conceptual intensity of the preceding track, the album enters silence. The wilderness is stripped of punishment and reimagined as a place where external reassurance disappears and deeper listening becomes possible.

Ancient lyre, reed flute, cello, frame drum, sparse piano, and large spaces between phrases create one of the album’s most elemental sound worlds. Nothing dramatic arrives to rescue the listener from uncertainty. That is precisely the point. Silence is not necessarily absence. The sacred may remain present even when it does not announce itself, explain itself, or provide an answer.

Lyrics

[Intro]

There is nothing here
to prove that I am held.

No sign across the sky.

No voice explaining
where the road will turn.

Only earth.

Only breath.

Only I.

[Verse 1]

I used to call this silence
the place where heaven went.

I thought an unanswered question
meant the answer had been spent.

I searched the empty distance
for something I could name,

as though the sacred vanished
when nothing came to explain.

[Pre-Chorus]

But the wind did not abandon me.

The ground remained below.

And something in the stillness
asked me not to leave,

but know.

[Chorus]

The wilderness is not empty.

The silence is alive.

There is something underneath it
that does not need to hide.

The wilderness is not empty.

Nothing sacred disappeared.

When every other voice grows quiet,

something deeper
can be heard.

[Verse 2]

There are no walls to hide behind.

No mirror for my name.

No crowd to tell me who I am.

No certainty to claim.

And when the noise grows distant,
when nothing answers back,

I begin to hear the breathing
I had covered with the facts.

[Pre-Chorus]

Maybe emptiness is not a wound.

Maybe silence is not loss.

Maybe when the road grows barren,

I can finally
feel the ground.

[Chorus]

The wilderness is not empty.

The silence is alive.

There is something underneath it
that does not need to hide.

The wilderness is not empty.

Nothing sacred disappeared.

When every other voice grows quiet,

something deeper
can be heard.

[Bridge]

I do not need a thunderclap.

I do not need a sign.

I do not need the heavens
to interrupt this life.

Maybe the holy
does not always speak.

Maybe sometimes
it becomes the space

in which I finally listen.

What remains
when certainty is gone?

Breath.

What remains
when answers disappear?

Presence.

What remains
when I have nothing left to hold?

You are here.

I am here.

And for this moment,

that is enough.

[Verse 3]

So I will not hurry
to escape the quiet now.

I will let the open distance
teach me how to stay.

I will let the unanswered
remain unanswered for a while,

and trust that something living
does not always need a name.

[Final Chorus]

The wilderness is not empty.

The silence has a breath.

What I thought was abandonment
was stillness underneath.

The wilderness is not empty.

The sacred did not leave.

Sometimes everything grows quiet

so that I can
finally receive.

The wilderness is not empty.

I do not stand alone.

Even here,
without an answer,

something in me knows.

[Refrain]

Here in the silence.

Here in the breath.

Here without knowing.

Here without proof.

Still here.

Still here.

Nothing had to speak

for presence
to remain.

[Outro]

I thought the silence
meant you had gone.

Now I know

silence
has its own
kind of presence.

Still here.

Become the Bread

The album then returns to the ordinary world: tables, hands, hunger, food, companionship, and the simple act of sharing. Drawing from biblical imagery of daily bread, shared meals, feeding, and communion, the song asks what happens when blessing ceases to be something merely received.

The answer is participation. What nourishes us can move through us. Bread becomes a symbol for every form of care that becomes tangible: feeding someone, making room, remaining present, offering kindness, sharing what we have. The song’s warm gospel pulse reflects this shift from contemplation into action. The blessing becomes complete when it begins to move.

Lyrics

[Intro – warm piano, ancient lyre and cello; no drums]

There is bread upon the table.

There are hands around the room.

There is more than what is given.

There is something passing through.

[Verse 1]

I used to pray for plenty.

I used to ask for more.

For something from a distant heaven
To arrive outside my door.

But the bread was in my keeping.

There was someone I could feed.

And what I called an answer
Was already near the need.

[Pre-Chorus – upright bass enters softly]

Maybe blessing is not having
More than I could ever use.

Maybe blessing comes alive
In what I choose to give.

[Chorus – brushes and restrained frame drum enter]

Become the bread.

Become the giving.

Let what nourished you move on.

Become the hands
that make a place

where someone can belong.

Become the bread.

Become the table.

Let love take a form we see.

What was given
does not end here.

Let it move
through you and me.

[Short instrumental – piano, lyre and cello]

[Verse 2]

There are hungers we can measure.

There are hungers without names.

Some need food upon the table.

Some need someone who will stay.

Some need kindness without questions.

Some need room enough to breathe.

And sometimes what becomes the answer
Is the presence that we bring.

[Pre-Chorus – soft Hammond enters]

We cannot carry every sorrow.

We cannot mend each broken part.

But we can offer what is ours:

A table.

A hand.

A heart.

[Chorus]

Become the bread.

Become the giving.

Let what nourished you move on.

Become the hands
that make a place

where someone can belong.

Become the bread.

Become the table.

Let love take a form we see.

What was given
does not end here.

Let it move
through you and me.

[Bridge – arrangement falls back to piano, lyre, cello and frame drum]

I asked for daily bread.

And there was bread to share.

I asked for love to enter.

And love said:

I am here.

Not only in the blessing.

Not only in the prayer.

But in the moment
what I have

becomes something
we can share.

[Brief pause]

Who will carry kindness?

[Choir]

We will.

Who will make a place?

[Choir]

We will.

Who will bring the table
where there was none before?

[Choir]

We will.

Then let the prayer
become our hands.

[Choir]

We will.

[Final Chorus – warm organ, strings and fuller choir]

Become the bread.

Become the giving.

Let what nourished you move on.

Become the hands
that make a place

where someone can belong.

Become the bread.

Become the table.

Let compassion become real.

Let the sacred find a body

in the ways
we help and heal.

Become the bread.

Become the blessing.

Not a word we only say.

Let what love has placed within us

feed the world
in some small way.

[Refrain – gentle communal gospel pulse]

Pass it on.

Pass it on.

What was given
was meant to move.

Pass it on.

Pass it on.

Let the blessing
move through you.

[Choir]

Through our hands.

Through our tables.

Through our living.

Pass it on.

[Outro – drums, bass and organ withdraw]

[Return to piano, cello and ancient lyre]

There was bread
upon the table.

There were hands
around the room.

And what we called
a blessing

became something
we could do.

[Choir, almost a cappella]

Become the bread.

What Love Cannot Lose

Resurrection is approached here not as an argument, but as a mystery. The song does not instruct the listener how the Resurrection must be understood. Instead, it asks what the image reveals about endings, grief, transformation, and the possibility that life may be larger than the form through which we first encountered it.

The line “We call the morning resurrection because the night was real” is essential to the song’s meaning. Universal Gospel does not deny loss in order to affirm hope. Something can truly end. Grief can be real. And yet love, meaning, and life may continue in ways that do not simply recreate what existed before. Resurrection becomes not restoration of the past, but the discovery that life can open beyond an ending.

Lyrics

[Intro – spacious slow 6/8, ancient lyre, low cello and sparse piano]

[Female mezzo, intimate]

There are moments when a doorway closes
And nothing opens in its place.

There are names we keep on speaking
Though we can no longer see the face.

[Verse 1]

I have stood beside an ending
And believed the ending whole.

I have watched a form disappear
And wondered what remained.

I have held what could not stay here.

I have asked what still was true.

And silence never promised me
That life would look the way it used to.

[Pre-Chorus – high strings enter softly]

But something underneath the sorrow
Would not disappear.

Not an answer.

Not a promise.

Something simply
still was here.

[Chorus – distant mixed choir]

What love cannot lose
May change its form.

May leave the shape
In which we knew.

What love cannot lose
Is larger than

The things our hands
Can hold onto.

Something ends.

Something remains.

Something rises
Without returning the same.

What love cannot lose
Is larger than what leaves.

[Short instrumental – piano, cello, lyre and reed flute]

[Verse 2]

We call the morning resurrection
Because the night was real.

Not because the darkness vanished
Before we had to feel.

Not because no tears were falling.

Not because goodbye was small.

But because life kept revealing
That an ending was not all.

[Pre-Chorus – warm bass enters]

Maybe rising is not going
Back to what we knew before.

Maybe rising is discovering
Life has opened another door.

[Chorus – frame drum and soft brushes enter]

What love cannot lose
May change its form.

May leave the shape
In which we knew.

What love cannot lose
Is larger than

The things our hands
Can hold onto.

Something ends.

Something remains.

Something rises
Without returning the same.

What love cannot lose
Is larger than what leaves.

[Bridge – return to piano, cello and lyre]

I do not have to call an ending
An illusion.

I do not have to say
That nothing died.

I can honor what has vanished

And still leave room
For life.

[Brief silence]

What remains
When the form is gone?

[Choir]

Love remains.

What remains
When the road has changed?

[Choir]

Love remains.

What remains
When I cannot return?

[Choir]

Love remains.

[Lead]

And what remains
Can teach me
How to rise.

[Instrumental lift – chamber strings widen and soft organ enters]

[Final Chorus – full ensemble, expansive but restrained]

What love cannot lose
May change its form.

May cross beyond
What we can see.

What love cannot lose
Keeps moving on

Through memory,
Through presence,
Through what we become.

Something ends.

Something remains.

Something rises
And begins again.

What love cannot lose
Is living even now.

[Choir]

Love remains.

Life remains.

Love remains.

[Outro – drums, bass and organ withdraw]

[Return to piano, cello and ancient lyre]

[Female lead alone]

I thought resurrection
Meant returning.

[Pause]

Now I wonder
If it means

Becoming
more than what was lost.

[Choir, almost a cappella]

Love remains.

[Lead]

And life
keeps opening.

[Choir]

Love remains.

We Become the Prayer

The final track gathers the entire album into a single act of embodiment. Mary’s willingness, Magdalene’s recognition, the Prodigal’s belonging, the present Kingdom, transformed prayer, wilderness silence, shared bread, and resurrection all converge here.

Ancient and contemporary musical languages finally coexist fully: lyre and frame drum beneath gospel piano, Hammond organ, rhythm section, strings, cello, and mixed choir. What began as private spiritual realization becomes communal participation. The album does not end by abandoning prayer, but by expanding its meaning. Prayer becomes hands, voice, mercy, presence, generosity, and lived love.

The final question is no longer simply “Where is heaven?”

It is:

“How will heaven live through me?”

And the answer of the album is contained in its title:

We become the prayer.

Lyrics

[Intro – ancient lyre and piano, gentle 4/4]

[Cello enters softly. Frame drum begins almost imperceptibly.]

[Female mezzo, intimate]

We began by asking heaven
To meet us from above.

We waited for an answer.
We waited to be loved.

[Verse 1]

We searched beyond the distance.
We searched beyond the sky.

We asked the holy questions:
Where are you?
Who am I?

Then something in the silence
Began to make it clear:

The sacred was not absent.

The kingdom
was already here.

[Pre-Chorus – bass and soft brushes enter]

And every door we opened
Was opening us too.

What we were asking heaven for
Was asking something
of us.

[Chorus – mixed choir enters warmly]

We become the prayer.

We become the answer.

Not because we know
how everything will be.

We become the hands.

We become compassion.

We become the place
where love becomes reality.

We become the prayer.

Not words alone.

The sacred takes a body

when we live
what we have known.

[Short instrumental – piano, lyre, cello and reed flute]

[Verse 2]

We learned to make room
before we knew the way.

We learned that love can still be near
when grief has had its say.

We learned that home remembers
even when we wander far.

We learned the kingdom does not wait
beyond wherever we are.

We learned to share the bread.

We learned to hear the still.

And when an ending changed its form,

love was living still.

[Pre-Chorus – Hammond enters softly]

What we once called prayer
Was beginning to become

A way of seeing.

A way of giving.

A way of being one.

[Chorus – fuller rhythm and choir]

We become the prayer.

We become the answer.

Not because we know
how everything will be.

We become the hands.

We become compassion.

We become the place
where love becomes reality.

We become the prayer.

Not words alone.

The sacred takes a body

when we live
what we have known.

[Bridge – rhythm falls back; piano, lyre, cello and frame drum]

[Lead]

If I ask for peace—

[Choir]

Let me carry peace.

[Lead]

If I ask for mercy—

[Choir]

Let me practice mercy.

[Lead]

If I ask for love—

[Choir]

Let love move through me.

[Lead]

If I ask where heaven is—

[Choir]

Let heaven begin here.

[Brief silence]

[Lead]

Not only above us.

[Choir]

Among us.

[Lead]

Not only beyond us.

[Choir]

Within us.

[Lead]

Not someday.

[Choir]

Here.

[Instrumental lift – strings widen, organ opens, ancient and modern rhythms merge]

[Final Chorus – full Sacred Chamber Gospel ensemble, radiant but restrained]

We become the prayer.

We become the answer.

We become the peace
we once were waiting for.

We become the hands.

We become compassion.

We become the ones
who open up the door.

We become the prayer.

The kingdom is here.

Every time we choose
to make love visible.

We become the prayer.

And now we understand:

What we once asked heaven to do

can begin
within our hands.

[Refrain – communal call and response]

[Lead]

I am willing.

[Choir]

We are willing.

[Lead]

I am listening.

[Choir]

We are listening.

[Lead]

I am open.

[Choir]

We are open.

[All]

Let love move.

[Lead]

Through our hands.

[Choir]

Let love move.

[Lead]

Through our voices.

[Choir]

Let love move.

[Lead]

Through our living.

[All]

We become the prayer.

[Outro – drums, bass and organ withdraw]

[Return to piano, cello and ancient lyre]

[Female lead alone]

I used to ask
where heaven was.

[Pause]

Now I ask:

How will heaven
live through me?

[Choir, almost a cappella]

Through our hands.

Through our voices.

Through our living.

[Lead]

We do not stop praying.

[Choir]

We become the prayer.

[Pause]

[Lead, very softly]

Here.

[Choir]

Here.
